Although in general play we don’t always take ourselves seriously, when
it comes to raiding we are all business. Putting together a
successful raid can be very challenging, and people tend to become very
frustrated when someone who seemed to be committed to the raid group
becomes unreliable. A failed raid (and sometimes, even a successful
one) can be very costly after taking into account the cost of potions,
flasks, food, reagents, and
repairs. As a result, people who plan to raid want to feel that it
won’t be a waste of time, gold, and effort.
1. RAID SCHEDULE AND INVITATIONS
See the Raid Schedule for our raid days and times. We expect you to know what time you need to be on for raid invites. People
who show up late will be invited to the raid at the raid leader's
discretion, and most often end up on the standby list. If you
frequently show up late, leave early, go AFK, or do not show at all,
you may find yourself invited to raids much less often.
NOTE: ON TIME refers to when INVITES go out,
so you should leave yourself enough time to get ready, get to the
instance, and make sure you are fully buffed before we begin trash
pulls. Our weeknight raids are fairly short so it is very important
that we get them started on time.
If you
know ahead of time that, for any reason, you will be late or will not be able to make it to a raid at all, please post in our "Can't Make It To The Raid" thread in our Raid Forums so we know that you are not coming (and why you are missing- IRL stuff should come first, but please let us know). Otherwise we just assume you are flaky and don't care about whether or not you get a raid spot, and we will find someone who DOES care. Bottom line: flaky people get fewer raid invites and less loot.
If you
know ahead of time that, for any reason, you will not be able to stay
in the raid past a specific time, please inform the raid leader at the
time that he sends you an invitation to the raid.
Example: "I want to come, but I need to leave at 8:30 server, is that a problem?"
PLEASE!
Also let the raid leader know BEFORE the raid begins if you were hoping
to come to the raid with a spec other than your usual one, as this may
affect strategy, healing assignments, loot, etc. (Alts are generally not allowed in raids unless unless it is farmed content or the raid leader needs a specific class/spec we are missing; we also generally do weekly 25-man alt runs on Sundays.)
Example: "Hey, I am ret spec right now, but I want to come, is that ok or do you need me to respec back to holy?"
Be warned that the raid leader may choose to not take you to the raid
with your alternate spec, particularly if you are dps and he needs
healers/tanks, or your usual spec has much better gear.
Standby List
People on the standby list are brought
in when raid members disconnect or are having lag issues, go AFK for
too long, have to leave early, or leave the raid for some other reason.
If we need you we want to be able to summon you immediately and have you be ready to step right in and raid. Please make sure you:
- Have watched/read strat for the bosses we are attempting
- Have flasks and food in your bags
- Repair prior to invite/ summons
If you are not ready to go when we call you, we will ask the next person on the list, so if you are on the standby list and have to go AFK while you are waiting, you may want to whisper the raid leader or an officer in the raid to let them know. We also suggest that you not do activities while on standby that will have you wrapped up for long periods of time, as we are unlikely to wait for you to finish what you are doing- we will probably just invite the next person on the list instead.
Activities recommended while on Standby:
- Dailies
- Fishing/ farming meat for raid food
- Gathering professions
Activites NOT recommended while on Standby:
- Heroics (unless it is short and you start when raid begins)
- PuG 10 man raids
- Arena matches
- Battlegrounds (unless you are ok with deserting a BG to come to raid)
2. RAIDING REQUIREMENTS
The following are REQUIRED if you want to raid with us:
1) Ventrilo
2) Omen Threat Meter (mostly for tanks and DPS)
3) Deadly Boss Mods (DBM) or Deus Vox Encounters (DXE) (BigWigs is okay, too, but our officers use DBM or DXE)
4) Certain class-specific mods such as Decursive and Pally Power
There is a list of links HERE
where you can download Ventrilo, DBM/DXE, and also some class-specific mods
that may be required as well (check thread on raid specs in the class
forum for your class). If you need any help or have any questions
about setting up Ventrilo or mods (also called "Add-ons"), let a guild
member know so we can help you.
3. RAID PREPAREDNESS
Before making your way to the instance on your own or asking for a summon, please check that you are "prepared" for the raid:
- Fully repaired and gold to pay for additional repairs
- Appropriate gear & spec
- Bags not cluttered with useless crap to be vendored
- Potions- ALL DPS SHOULD BE BRINGING HASTE POTS!!!
- Elixirs/ Flasks (for BOTH specs in case you are asked to switch specs)
- Food for food buff (in case we have no Fish Feasts or you need your own special food buff)
- Water (in case, god forbid, we have no mage)
- Reagents (including a couple soul shards for warlocks)
- Bandages
- Any other gear or items you may need (offspec gear in case you are asked to switch)
The officers may bring some
potions and other supplies from the guild resources, in case the raid
runs long or there is some other reason they are needed. That does NOT
mean that you should not bother to bring any of your own supplies.
There will always be an officer available (check with Noorb first) to sell you flasks from the guild bank at guild discount before the raid begins. Once invites go out, Justizia and sometimes other officers will sell flasks in raid to people who need them; they will cost 50g per flask, regardless of AH price.
That means that even if you are on standby, you need to make sure you have flasks before the raid begins or you will pay the inflated, mid-raid price. It is to your advantage to plan ahead so you can save money.
If you need potions, elixirs, or flasks made, there are alchemists in
the guild (as well as guild members who have alts with alchemy) who are happy to make them for you. There is a post in the Members' Forum (Resource & Reference Forum) about food,
potions, flasks, and elixirs (there are also similar posts about
enchants, glyphs and gems), and there is a very useful mod called Guild
Craft, which lets you know in-game who can make which items and what
the mats are.
4. RAID LOOT
For our 25-man raids, we use a Loot Council system for loot distribution. Be
aware that raid attendance, attentiveness, and preparedness are some of
the factors that affect the council's decision on who receives loot. New members who are still on trial may be passed on loot until their raid attendance and performance are established.
When an item drops, all people who are interested in the item will link
in raid chat the item they are upgrading from and how it is an upgrade.
If you have a particular gear build planned, or are stacking particular
stats, will get a new 2 or 4 piece tier set bonus, or know this is a best in slot item for your class/spec, you may
want to indicate this when you link for the item. For example, rolling
on
[Pendant of the Violet Eye]:
[Uberpally]: [Lower City Prayerbook]- need more mp5!
The officers in the raid and 2 randomly selected raid members will go
into a separate vent channel to discuss who should receive the loot
item. We encourage the non-officers in the loot council to share their thoughts and opinions as part of the process. For more information about how the Loot Council system works,
and what factors we consider, please read the thread about it here.
Occasionally, two people who the council feels are equally deserving
will be asked to /roll to determine which one will receive the item.
Important Note about Loot Trading:
Blizzard, in their effort to reduce the
amount of time their GMs have to spend on resolving issues related to
mislooting of items, has now made it so that items which are recieved
in a raid or dungeon can be traded for up to an hour after being
received.
I think that for the most part, our raid members are fairly honest and
would not intentionally use this mechanism for self-gain, but rather
act as if they were "passing" on an item by giving it to someone else.
That is not intrinsically a problem, except that we the LC might have
had very specific reasons for wanting to give an item to one person
rather than another, which might relate to their performance, their
attendance, their commitment to the guild, or any of the other factors
that we consider when we distribute loot "for the benefit of the raid's
progress". Loot trading without notifying the officers presents several problems to the raid members and guild as a whole:
1) It totally subverts the Loot Council's process, authority, and goals.
2) It could easily lead to someone attempting to "sell" or "buy" loot items to or from other guild/raid members.
3) It leads to inaccurate records of loot received and could affect our future distribution of loot as a result.
In an effort to avoid nasty loot drama
caused by these possibilities, we have formulated the following
official guild policy regarding loot trading:
1) If you are given a piece of loot
by the Loot Council and you decide
that for whatever reason, you don't want it after all and you want to
pass it to someone else who needs it, you MUST get approval from one of
the officers who participated in the Loot Council for that item BEFORE
trading the item to another raid member. Once approved, please be sure
to let Justizia know who the item actually went to so that the loot
records are accurate.
2) Anyone who is discovered to have traded an item received via
Loot
Council (both the person who gave the item and the person who received
the item) without gaining officer approval will be given a single
warning and will lose their guild rank for at least two weeks, during
which time they will also receive lower priority for any loot and/or
not receive any loot while in
raids. If this person is
found to have traded loot a second time, that person will be deemed a
"loot ninja" and as such, will be kicked out of the guild.
3) Anyone who is discovered to have bought or sold an item received via
Loot Council with either in-game or IRL funds will be immediately
deemed a "loot ninja" and will be kicked out of the guild.
For alt runs, 10 man raids, and sometimes even farmed content, we generally use regular group loot: Need for main spec upgrade, Greed for offspec upgrade or sidegrade, Pass if you don't need it (with someone designated to DE those items), or we have everyone /roll and items are distributed via a master looter to the person with the winning roll.
5. RAID ATTENTIVENESS AND FOCUS
Raid leaders will not tolerate raid members who are uncooperative,
inattentive, or flaky. Please focus and try to minimize distractions
during raids, particularly when we are going over strategy before a
pull. Keep vent clear and try to minimize discussions in chat while the raid leader is going over strat. Please watch strat videos for new bosses before coming to raids so we can keep our strat review brief during raids.
Also, we know that everyone gets excited when they get a new
piece of gear, but unless you have the mats on you, please wait to put enchants or gems on new items
until after the raid is over, or we take a break.
Going AFK: We will try to call a short (2-5 minute) break about mid-way through the raid, so that people can get a snack or drink, use the bathroom, etc. Walking
away or going AFK at any other time is not acceptable unless there is an emergency. If you have an emergency and must go
AFK, please make sure that you say so in raid chat
and/or on vent so that the group is aware that you are AFK.
People who ninja AFK may be kicked from the raid and replaced with someone who is
on the standby list. If this happens, please do not throw a
fit in vent; if you feel you have been kicked unfairly, please whisper
the raid leader or Gryss.
If you do not return on time from a break,
if you go AFK for long periods of time (5 minutes or more), or if you are AFK for a ready
check or when we pull a boss, you may be kicked and replaced.
Repairs: If you need to repair your gear during a raid, please let the
raid leader know, preferably before you are completely yellow/red, so
the group can find a safe spot to rest and wait for you to return, or so a repair bot can be dropped.
Please do not complain about the cost of repairs, especially if we are doing progression. Wiping, using large quantities of consumables, and high repair bills are part of progression. If you have a bad attitude about progression, you are less likely to be invited to raids and less likely to recieve loot.
Food & Flasks: You MUST have food and flask (or 2 elixir) buffs before we pull a boss. Please remember to rebuff yourself as
needed; people who consistently have to be reminded to get well fed and
flasked are likely to be kicked and replaced.
On progression nights, we recommend you bring a lot of consumables in case we wipe repeatedly on new boss fights. If you run out of food or flasks, an officer may be willing to sell you some at inflated prices so it is cheaper for you to bring your own and overestimate how many you might need.
Buffing:
Before pulls, please make sure you are near the group so that you are
in range to recieve buffs. Many buffs are group buffs that require
reagents, and people can become cranky about wasting reagents to rebuff
you just because you were standing too far away. If everyone is
buffing in preparation for the pull and you are not close enough, you
may not receive any buffs. If you know you are too far away but are in
the process of returning to the group, it is okay to say so- that gives
people the option to wait to rebuff your class until you have gotten in
range.
If you are a
class that can give buffs, please do so without being asked, it really
speeds up the raid. If there are multiple members of your class in the
raid, try to work out with them at the start of the raid who will be
responsible for which buffs. Try to remember to immediately rebuff
people who have died and been resurrected, especially on boss fights
when someone receives a battle res.
Buffs are done just before a pull; therefore it is generally a bad time
to go AFK unless it is extremely urgent or will literally take under a
minute for you to return.
Dying during a raid:
If you die on trash, please immediately release and run back. On bosses, please DO NOT release and run back unless and until the
raid leader calls a wipe or says to release. There are some
occasions where if you released and we down the boss with you outside the instance that it can create problems with giving you loot.
Posting Meters: PLEASE do not ask for or post
dps/healing meters while people are linking for loot. If you don't run
Recount or another meter add-on, please you can join the
lucidmeters chat channel (/join lucidmeters); we sometimes post meters there. However, a better option is to focus on the raid while raiding and then after the raid check the WWS Forum. Noorb posts links for WWS and World of Logs reports for each raid there and they have more sophisticated tools for you to evaluate your performance. In addition, you have more time to analyze the information there.
6. TALKING ON VENT
During raids, especially progression, it is important to keep vent clear so the raid leader and
raid assistants can call out important instructions or changes during
the fights. Even on trash pulls, it is helpful to
keep any unnecessary chatter out of vent, because it is very
distracting and has a tendency to make people in the raid lose their
focus and make unnecessary mistakes.
If you need to communicate something
but it is not urgent and immediate, please type in chat. People who
continue to be unnecessarily noisy on vent will receive one warning
from the raid leader and after that any further noise violation will
result in that person being globally muted on vent. They will still be
able to hear everyone else, but no one will be able to hear them.
Please do not yell at people or be rude and nasty to people in vent or raid chat. (See our Standards of Conduct in Guild Policies.) If you are frustrated or concerned about something, please direct your comments to an officer or the raid leader.
Boss Fights:
If we are fighting a boss and you make a mistake or die, or the person you are assigned to heal dies, PLEASE DO NOT TELL US IN VENT, PLEASE DO NOT APOLOGIZE IN VENT. We have raid frames and can see who died. We appreciate people's willingness to own up to their mistakes, but we need vent clear so the raid leader can reassign someone else to do whatever you were responsible for and try to salvage the attempt. The only exception to this rule is if you were assigned to do a specific task/role on the boss fight- in that case, please say something if you die so that we can assign someone else to take over.
- If you know what mistake you made, what killed you or caused you to let someone die, you don't need to tell the raid. Just make a mental note about what you need to do so it doesn't happen again.
- If you know what went wrong and you think that an adjustment to the strat
or reassigning roles within the raid would make things easier, please whisper the raid leader with your
suggestions. You don't need to justify what happened, but if you are concerned we need to change the strat due to something beyond your control, we are open to feedback.
- If you are not sure what happened (hint: check your combat log), please whisper the raid leader or another officer and ask, so we can help you not repeat your mistake.
***PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not say any thing to the effect of "We got this" or "Grats, he's down" until the boss is actually DEAD.
We have wiped before with the boss at 1% or 2% and so we are a bit
superstitious about this. Chances are, you will get yelled at by
everyone in the raid if you do this. So please don't.
7. PROBLEMS WITHIN A RAID
If you are experiencing
a problem with another member of the raid group, please whisper the
raid leader about it. If you feel like the raid leader has not
satisfactorily resolved your problem, or if you are experiencing a
problem with the raid leader for your group, please whisper Gryss (or
if he is not on, send him an in-game mail).
If the raid leader has
concerns about any member of the group, he/she will whisper that person
about the issue. If this fails to resolve the problem and the
undesirable behavior continues, that person will be kicked from the
raid.
If you are dropped from a raid group or told that you will not be
allowed to run and you do not understand why, please ask the
raid leader and/or Gryss.
A note about 10 mans and alt runs:
These raids are not always run by officers. We do not do loot council for them. Generally, they operate on group loot principles as laid out at the end of the "Loot" section above, however, we suggest you ask the raid leader to clarify the loot rules of any raid you are in before the raid begins in order to avoid misunderstandings.
If you choose to run a PuG, please be aware that we do not tolerate ninja looters in the guild. This kind of behavior reflects badly on the guild and causes unneccessary drama that we do not want to deal with. If we find out that you have ninja looted a PuG, we will gkick you.
